Hope you are having a good beginning of the month. This month Hardcore Soft Skills podcast turns 4 years old, so its a great time to start a new season of the podcast with a new episode next week. In case you have not noticed, I have made some updates to the website, where you can get resources, see our offerings, and access my courses.
One of these courses is on LinkedIn Learning (woot!). Here is a behind the scenes gossip: this was completely unscripted. When I recorded this at production company Madecraft, I had just finished recording an hour long scripted course, and they had asked me for an extra recording on a specific topic. I had picked the topic beforehand and jotted some points, but had nothing scripted. They wanted to keep this natural so I went in and recorded the 'interview.' It was surprising to see that from the courses I had developed, this was the one to be picked by LinkedIn. The lesson here: jump into an opportunity and see where it gets you!
The course is only about 15 minutes, but if you want a short snapshot of how to persuade others to buy-in to your ideas and proposals, here is a snapshot:
- Listen before persuading. Before coming in with your own agenda, make sure to understand concerns, interest and pain points of those you want to persuade.
- Build trust through transparency. Make sure you make your intentions on the topic at hand or any topic known.
- Earn credibility by communicating and engaging with team. Look for collaborative solutions, and not juts impose your own.
- Be cordial and kind when persuading. Always respectful and making others feel comfortable.
- Use words and ideas your audience recognizes. This show you are thinking of their benefit, not yours.
- What else would you add?
Let me know what is a kew takeaway from the course.
